Lauren Ivy Chiong (Writer/Director)Director Lauren Ivy Chiong was inspired to create Holy Tortilla by legends from the Southwest, true-life discoveries of the face of Jesus in everyday objects, and Latin American magic realism. Concentrating in Film Studies at Yale University, Chiong cultivated a passion for film through studying the great masters of early cinema. While at Yale she directed theatrical productions of The Elephant Man and Blues. Currently completing a Master's Degree in Film Production at Boston University, her directing experiences in the short form have included everything from the murder mystery (Maniac) and romantic comedy (Ladykiller/Manhunter) to profiling Holocaust survivors (The Survival of the Schiffs) and a Russian puppeteer who carves wooden marionettes (seen in Harvard Square). She has completed three feature length sceenplays at Boston University under the auspices of screenwriters Stephen Geller (Slaughterhouse Five) and Michael McDowell (Beetlejuice). In her spare time she studies languages (including French and Japanese) and flamenco, and watches movies. |
